Unite Students Business Energy Case Study
Unite Students is the UK’s leading manager and developer of student accommodation. They provide a home for over 43,000 students in 130 purpose-built properties across 23 of the UK’s strongest university towns and cities.
Ignite and Unite have been working together successfully since 2010. Achievements include over £3m of cost recovery from historic utility billing and ongoing bill challenges, a utility accounting process that uses day+1 data for accruals and much greater visibility of utility costs and contributing factors.
Working in partnership with the energy and finance teams, we continue to support Unite with ambitious plans for reducing energy usage across the portfolio whilst maintaining a great environment for students to study and socialise in comfort.
Challenges
Energy use varies extensively with occupancy and prevailing weather
Properties can have complex metering arrangements and be on both sides of the landlord/tenant relationship
Implementation and initiatives need to take into account impact on-site colleagues and residents as well as management needs.
